Why choose bamboo?

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet. It grows at a rate of 1-4 inches a DAY, reaches full height in just one growing season, and has a life cycle of 5-7 years. As long as it's grown organically, bamboo is a sustainable source for eco friendly products and can be turned into literally thousands of products.

What can be made of bamboo?

Bamboo products include building materials, textiles and paper.

Homes can be built of bamboo and have bamboo flooring. Bamboo flooring resembles traditional hardwood but is more eco friendly. It is naturally a light wood but can be stained to a variety of colors. Bamboo flooring also comes in different patterns depending upon how the bamboo is treated and pieced together.

Bamboo can be turned into a pulp to make paper which helps prevent deforestation.

The most fun, though, is bamboo textiles! Bamboo can be turned into fabric, which is as soft as cashmere. Bamboo T-Shirts are my favorite because they immediately feel like your favorite shirt that's been washed 100 times.

Just search "bamboo" for a cornucopia of wearable greenness!

Speaking of Softness ...

Give bamboo bedding a try! Imagine snuggling into cashmere-like softness every night. Not only is bamboo bedding eco-friendly, it's durable and comfortable. What could be better than that?

bamboo sheets

I was a firm believer in 1,000-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets until I chose to opt for a greener lifestyle. Now I wouldn't go back to cotton even if it was responsibly produced. Sleeping on bamboo sheets is like sleeping in a cocoon of silk and cashmere, but always cool. I LOVE my bamboo sheets!

In addition to fabrics, bamboo can be used to make furniture, decorative items and kitchen accessories. One of my favorites is this "spork" ... so fun, funky and functional!

make sure the bamboo is responsibly harvested and organic.
