Want some ideas for saving money?
Looking for money saving ideas?
Here are some simple ways to save money:
out costs a fortune; especially if you add a few drinks and tip
appropriately. One of my favorite tips on how to save money without giving up your social life is to invite friends over for dinner and
drinks – assign each friend a course (appetizer, dessert, etc.)
while you make the entree and you'll all have a great dinner with
great company for much less than a night out. Try some of our organic recipes for great money saving ideas.
Going to the movies is expensive. For a great way to save money, try having an at-home movie marathon instead. Get your movie candy at the dollar store, pop yourself some popcorn and relax on your couch! Ideas for saving money on rentals? Rent your movies from Redbox. They have a decent selection of new releases for around $1/night.
REPAIR INSTEAD OF REPLACE
Repair your clothing instead of replacing it. A cute
patch or a mended seam can give years of life to garment which would
have otherwise been trash. Can't sew? Trade babysitting or dog
walking with a friend who can! Trade tips on how to save money with each other, too!
For another money saving ideas, try repairing appliances instead of replacing them. Yes, you want that new, top-of-the-line refrigerator but doesn't it make more sense to get an estimate to repair your current fridge first? If $200 worth of repairs will keep it running for another 5 years, you're saving a bundle!
Protecting you health is one of the top ways to save money. Moderate exercise every day can help your immune system, keeps your muscles conditioned and releases endorphins that make you happier. Try to get that exercise outside. You'll be away from the TV and constant barrage of ads for things that you don't really need.
PLAN YOUR SHOPPING
You will save money by making a list and sticking to it. Better yet, make that grocery list around this week's sales and print out coupons for sale items. Don't go grocery shopping when you're hungry; you'll spend an average of 20% more on impulse items.
When certain cuts of meat you use often are on sale, buy in bulk and freeze. Buy 10 chickens when they're on sale at your favorite grocery store. Clean them, cut them up and separate into freezer bags. Don't know what's for dinner tonight? You'll have lots of ingredients on hand to come up with a delicious meal in no time.
When you cook, make extra and freeze it. Then, on hectic nights, you'll have a casserole ready to warm up instead of searching through take out menus.
Don't have a slow cooker? Get one. Toss your ingredients in before you leave for work, and you'll have a hot meal waiting when you get home. A slow cooker also allows you to substitute lesser cuts of meat but still end up with tender, delicious meals.
Quick ideas for saving money at the store? Try the generics of brands you usually buy. Sometimes it's the same, sometimes it's not – but it's worth a try if you find something you like just as much. OTC generic medicines are required to have the same ingredients as the brand names, so you can rely on their effectiveness while saving money.
DITCH THE CAR
Especially if you're a multi-car family, try going without your car. Walk, ride your bike, use public transportation and car-sharing services such as Zipcar. If you're not ready to commit, try it for a month and see how much you save!
MAKE IT INSTEAD OF BUYING IT
Make gifts or give gifts of service rather than purchasing “stuff.”
Make your bread instead of buying it. It's cheaper, tastes better, and is better for you.
Make meals from scratch instead of buying box meals. Again, its cheaper and better!
Most household cleaners can be replaced with homemade cleaners. These homemade cleaners are cheaper and safer, for you and for the environment. For great money saving ideas, I like Jillee's Top 10 Favorite Homemade Cleaners.
